We sat down with the multi-hyphenate creative mind behind Mijaporter and ELLE Influencer of the Year 2023 to chat personal style and the perfect pair of denim.

Originally from Montenegro, Mija currently resides in London, but has lived all over the globe. She pairs that worldly point-of-view with an astute eye for art direction to help emerging and established brands alike develop their image and personality. As a creative director, art director, influencer, social media strategist, and stylist, she brings a wholistic perspective to each project and her own personal style.

Who do you look up to style-wise and how do they influence your dressing process?

I really like women who are effortlessly put well together. Not many people know how to pull that off. They are either trying too hard or completely dressed down. Two girls that I really love who have a lot of personality and authenticity are Natasha Goldberg and Blanca Miro.

When getting dressed, which item do you feel incomplete without?

A great cotton t-shirt is always under my layers. I love to spend money on very pricey cotton t-shirts.

What do you look for in a pair of jeans? What does the perfect pair feature?

A great pair of jeans are a mid-rise fit and cropped at the bottom. For those of us who love to work out, I feel like that model is flattering on my glutes and ankles.

Do you prioritize style or function when dressing and how do you blend the two?

I really like pieces that are very distinct in terms of design. Some people shop by brand, I like to shop by design. That being the first priority, comfort and wearability are definitely second most important. We live such fast-paced lives, with lots of travel and meetings to attend. Functionality plays a crucial part in our shopping choices.

As someone who travels quite often, what pieces can’t you live without when on the go?

A great oversized shirt and oversized jeans that I can switch between, allowing me to feel cool and comfortable as I walk through the airport. Wearing great clothes should allow you to feel a certain way.

What are three denim staples everyone should have in their wardrobe?

A great pair of jeans, denim shirt and a denim jacket. They are definitely items that I always go back to through the years. There is something so timeless and badass about having a great denim wardrobe. Isn’t there?
